Afrikana Dance at Houston Metropolitan Dance Center

Afrikana is a class that explores the diverse dance traditions and styles from Africa and its Diaspora. Students will learn polyrhythms, polymovements, groundedness, isolations, polycentrism, and improvisational practices, while gaining knowledge about the history and culture from which these movements emerge and the influences they’ve had on other dance forms.

Afrikana Dance at HDMC

This is an open level class designed to be the bridge between a Beginning and Intermediate level classes. Open Level classes are suggested for students who have at least two to three years of dance training.

Afrikana Attire: Yoga and or Gym wear, Dance wear, Lapa (African wrap skirt) and barefeet, unless otherwise instructed.
